The recent advances in the synthesis of selenium-containing heterocycles are critically revised. Since 2018, dozens of articles describing greener approaches to access organoselenium compounds have appeared in the literature. Among the green features of these new protocols, the use of efficient energy sources, alternative solvents and reagents, biobased starting materials, and visible light-promoted reactions are some of them. The collected articles will give to the readers an overview on the state of the art and the trends in the green synthesis of heterocycles merged with organoselenium groups.
