This review article discusses recent advancements in the field of photo-catalysis, focusing on the enhancement of photocatalytic properties using PANI with different metal oxide nanoparticles and their nanocomposites over the past three decades. The mechanism of photo-catalysis and improvements in the photocatalytic property of metal oxide nanoparticles are detailed, with the potential benefits in the development of advanced functional conducting polymer-based nanocomposite materials for various applications.
Photo-catalyst plays a vital role in generating renewable energy by converting light energy into chemical energy. Recent advancement in the field of sensitization of metal oxide nanoparticles as a photo-catalyst with organic conducting polymers especially polyaniline (PANI) to enhance their photocatalytic properties have been investigated. This review article focuses on progress made in the field of photo-catalysis using PANI with different metal oxides nanoparticles and their nanocomposites in the last three decades. The mechanism of action of photo-catalysis and enhancement in the photocatalytic property of metal oxide nanoparticles are discussed in detail. This review article will prove very beneficial in the development of advanced functional conducting polymer-based nanocomposite material having a very high photocatalytic property to be used in splitting, purification of water, and decomposition of organic dyes.
