The role of peripheral blood eosinophil counts in COVID-19 patients

Guogang Xie et al.

Summary: The majority of COVID-19 patients had a decrease in circulating EOS counts, which had good predictive value for the disease. Patients with low EOS counts at admission were more likely to have symptoms, more severe chest CT findings, and a longer course of illness compared to those with normal EOS counts.

Eosinophil Response Against Classical and Emerging Respiratory Viruses: COVID-19

J. M. Rodrigo-Munoz et al.

Summary: Eosinophils are immune cells with a highly active metabolism and intracellular secretory granules that allow them to have various effects on immune responses during different health and disease states. In addition to their traditional roles in inflammation and allergic diseases, they have also been found to play a crucial role in host defense against fungi, bacteria, and viruses through multiple mechanisms.
