Molecular mechanisms of action of epigallocatechin gallate in cancer: Recent trends and advancement

Vaishali Aggarwal et al.

Summary: Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a polyphenolic flavonoid found abundantly in tea, which has the potential to inhibit cancer cell proliferation, metastasis, and angiogenesis. However, there are limitations in the studies of EGCG, including study design, bias, and inconsistent results. Encapsulating EGCG in nano-sized vehicles can improve its bioavailability. Identifying specific pharmacological targets of EGCG in tumor-specific signaling pathways is necessary for further development of novel cancer therapeutics.
