Provenance of the Late Cretaceous sediments in Jiaolai Basin, Eastern China, and its tectonic implications

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: The Wangshi Group faithfully records the Late Cretaceous palaeogeographic environment and tectonic evolution of the East Asian continental margin. The study reconstructs a four-stage evolution model of the Late Cretaceous source-to-sink system in the northern Jiaolai Basin using multiproxy provenance methods. The results suggest significant changes in the main source region during different stages of deposition, reflecting rapid uplift of the Sulu orogenic belt in the early Late Cretaceous.

Petrography and geochemistry of siliciclastic rocks of the Middle Eocene Gercus Formation, northern Iraq: Implications for provenance and tectonic setting

Yawooz A. Kettanah et al.

Summary: The red coloured Gercus Formation consists mainly of siliciclastic rocks with red and white sandstones, showing signs of recycling and collision from different sources. The geochemical characteristics indicate a provenance dominated by basic/ultrabasic rocks, with an oxic depositional environment for the studied siliciclastic rocks.
