Valorization of jute (Corchorussp.) biomass for bioethanol production

Summary: This study highlights the potential use of jute biomass for the production of second-generation bioethanol. By subjecting the biomass to physical and chemical pretreatments, enzymatic saccharification and fermentation, high yields of ethanol can be obtained. In addition, valuable platform chemicals can be recovered from the by-products of alkali pretreatment.

The research highlighted the beneficial role of NSSF in enhancing methane production during anaerobic digestion (AD), which could serve as a bioenergy source to offset operational costs.
