In vitro and in vivo characterization of cancer stem cell subpopulations in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Nadia Ghinelli Amor et al.

Summary: This study characterized the behavior of two cancer stem cell (CSC) phenotypes from an oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line in vitro and in vivo. The Epi-CSC phenotype showed higher proliferation and holoclone formation, while the EMT-CSC phenotype exhibited more migration and invasion in 3D culture. These findings suggest that Epi-CSC may be more important for tumorigenesis, while EMT-CSC may play a role in metastasis.

TAp63 and ΔNp63 (p40) in prostate adenocarcinomas: ΔNp63 associates with a basal-like cancer stem cell population but not with metastasis

Michaela Galoczova et al.

Summary: Prostate tumors are believed to contain cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) responsible for growth, metastasis, and therapy resistance, with Delta Np63 and TAp63 present in only a small percentage of tumor cells and not associated with metastasis. This suggests heterogeneity of CSCs in prostate cancer, similar to other cancer types.
