Chemical characterisation of particulate matter in urban transport modes

Vania Martins et al.

Summary: Monitoring personal exposure to PM2.5 in Lisbon revealed that cyclists inhale the highest doses of PM2.5 while car travelers have the lowest intake. There are significant differences in the chemical composition of PM depending on the mode of transportation. Additionally, Fe, Zn, Cu, Ni, and K were found to have a common traffic-related source in motorized transport modes.
