Evolution of microbial populations and impacts of microbial activity in the anaerobic-oxic-settling-anaerobic process for simultaneous sludge reduction and dyeing wastewater treatment

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: In-situ sludge reduction is crucial in biological treatment of dyeing wastewater. Comparing A + OSA and AAO processes, A + OSA demonstrated higher efficiency in sludge reduction and decolourisation, despite having higher effluent chemical oxygen demand. Long-term sludge return in A + OSA process inhibited microbial activity but could also potentially degrade sludge as co-metabolism substrate.

Diversity and structure of phenanthrene degrading bacterial communities associated with fungal bioremediation in petroleum contaminated soil

Qiqian Li et al.

Summary: The study identified indigenous phenanthrene (PHE)-degrading bacteria in soil through DNA stable-isotope probing during fungal bioremediation, revealing an increase in both the number and diversity of these bacteria with enhanced efficiency of PHE removal. Specifically, PHE degraders affiliated with the genus Sphingomonas were significantly enriched. Additionally, fungal bioaugmentation promoted the cooperative metabolism of indigenous functional Proteobacteria involved in PAH degradation.
