Is Preoperative Staphylococcus aureus Screening and Decolonization Effective at Reducing Surgical Site Infection in Patients Undergoing Orthopedic Surgery? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis With a Special Focus on Elective Total Joint Arthroplasty

Ana Ribau et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that preoperative S aureus screening/decolonization can decrease the risk of infection following orthopedic surgery, particularly in elective total joint arthroplasty (TJA) patients. All strategies appeared to be cost-effective, with universal decolonization without screening being the most advantageous.
