Low-carbon transition risks for finance

Gregor Semieniuk et al.

Summary: The transition to a low-carbon economy will result in major structural changes in industries, with some expanding their economic weight and others, especially those linked to fossil fuels, declining. This systemic shift may impact financial stability through asset revaluations, debt defaults, and bubbles in rising sectors. Research on financial transition risks from rapidly rising industries exists, but conceptual understanding of risks from declining industries is lacking.

Hidden Energy Flow indicator to reflect the outsourced energy requirements of countries

Ortzi Akizu-Gardoki et al.

Summary: Globalisation and outsourcing of industrial manufacturing from developed to less developed countries have significant impact on national energy balances. Academia suggests using Total Primary Energy Footprint as an additional metric. This study reveals that most developed and medium developed countries displace their indirect energy consumption towards less developed countries in a hidden way.
