Topical formulations containing aptamer-functionalized nanocapsules loaded with 5-fluorouracil - An innovative concept for the skin cancer therapy

Delia Mihaela Rata et al.

Summary: The new topical gel formulations containing AS1411 aptamer-functionalized polymeric nanocapsules loaded with an antitumoral drug showed promising potential for skin cancer treatment. Characterization tests including rheological, permeation, hemolysis, skin irritation, cytotoxicity and in vivo tests demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of the gel formulations. Nanoencapsulation of 5-Fluorouracil enhanced its permeability and cytotoxicity, making it an attractive option for skin cancer therapy.
