Sr ions are used as codopants to improve the luminescence properties of Ce-doped YAG. The presence of single YAG phase was confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurements, and Rietveld refinement showed that the unit cell expands with the increase of Sr2+ concentration. Photoluminescence (PL) exhibited characteristic transitions of Ce3+ ions with greater emission intensity in the green region, and the luminescence decay time indicated that the concentration enhances emission persistence.
To improve the luminescence properties of Ce-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG:Ce3+), Sr ions are used as codopants. New defects created in the charge compensation could modify the symmetry of the crystal field around the Ce doping ion. The samples were produced by a modified sol-gel, using glucose as a polymerizing agent. X-ray diffraction measurements confirmed the presence of the single YAG phase. From Rietveld refinement, it was possible to observe that the unit cell expands with the increase of the Sr2+ concentration. The photoluminescence (PL) showed characteristic transitions of Ce3+ ions with greater emission intensity in the green region. The luminescence decay time showed that the concentration makes the emission more persistent.
