Convalescent Plasma for Patients With Severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): A Matched Cohort Study

Ralph Rogers et al.

Summary: The study did not find a significant difference in mortality risk or hospital discharge rate between patients treated with convalescent plasma and the control group. However, there was a signal for improved outcomes among elderly patients, and a higher frequency of transfusion reactions was observed in the convalescent plasma group. Further randomized studies focusing on the elderly subgroup are recommended.

Convalescent plasma for the treatment of patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019: A preliminary report

Ali S. Omrani et al.

Summary: A study compared critically ill COVID-19 patients who received standard care with those who also received convalescent plasma therapy, finding no clinical benefits associated with convalescent plasma. There were no significant differences in 28-day mortality rates and viral clearance rates between the two groups, and randomized trials are needed to confirm these findings.
