Friction stir extrusion is a severe plastic deformation process proposed to fabricate high strength-and-ductility rare-earth containing Mg alloys, resulting in grain refinement and homogeneous dispersion of second-phases under the coupling thermo-mechanical effect, leading to improved mechanical properties of the alloy.
We proposed a severe plastic deformation process named friction stir extrusion to fabricate high strength-and-ductility rare-earth containing Mg alloys. Grain refinement and homogeneously dispersion of second-phases were obtained under the coupling thermo-mechanical effect, which resulted in the yield strength, ultimate strength and compression strain increased by 42.5%, 63.6% and 35.5% respectively.
