An Investigation of the Effect of COVID-19 on OCD in Youth in the Context of Emotional Reactivity, Experiential Avoidance, Depression and Anxiety

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to have short- and long-term psycho-social consequences, especially for young people, triggering anxiety disorders and OCD. A study on 598 adolescents in Turkey found that the fear of COVID-19 could lead to OCD through emotional reactivity, experiential avoidance, and depression-anxiety as mediators.

Summary: The study showed that the percentage of US adults with depression increased from 8.7% in 2017-2018 to 10.6% in March 2020 and 14.4% in April 2020. Significant increases in depression levels were observed for all population subgroups except those aged 65+ years and Black participants. Young adults aged 18-34 experienced the largest increase in depression, indicating their vulnerability to the mental health effects of the pandemic.

Fear, xenophobia and collectivism as predictors of well-being during Coronavirus disease 2019: An empirical study from India

Summary: The study found that there is a positive relationship between age and collectivism with well-being, while a negative relationship between well-being and fear of COVID-19. Fear of COVID-19, age, collectivism, and generalized xenophobia together contributed to nearly 20% of the variance in well-being. The importance of collectivism in enhancing well-being in times of uncertainty is reflected in the findings.
