Optimizing various parameters influencing mechanical properties of banana/coir natural fiber composites using grey relational analysis and artificial neural network models

K. R. Sumesh et al.

Summary: This study used banana and coir fibers from southern India as natural fiber reinforcement materials, and optimized the mechanical properties of banana/coir composites through Taguchi-based grey relational analysis. The optimal combination was found to be 20% banana/15% coir/3% alkali treatment/16 MPa pressure and 100 degrees C temperature. Banana was found to have the highest rank in improving the mechanical strength of natural composites.

Grey relational optimization for factors influencing tensile, flexural, and impact properties of hybrid sisal banana fiber epoxy composites

K. R. Sumesh et al.

Summary: This research investigates the mechanical stability of epoxy based composites using a Taguchi optimization based grey relational approach. The study found that the combination of 20% sisal, 15% banana, 5% NaOH, 10 MPa pressure, and 100 degrees C temperature resulted in the highest mechanical properties. SEM analysis revealed that the use of both sisal and banana fibers reduced surface abnormalities and improved the overall properties of the composites.

An Investigation into the Mechanical and Wear Characteristics of Hybrid Composites: Influence of Different Types and Content of Biodegradable Reinforcements

K. R. Sumesh et al.

Summary: This research focuses on the wear characteristics of hybrid composites prepared using Sisal fiber /Pineapple fiber and Pineapple fly ash. The addition of fly ash and fibers in certain proportions can improve the mechanical properties of the materials. The Taguchi optimization method is used to find the best combinations with lower SWR and CoF.

Mechanical, water absorption and wear characteristics of novel polymeric composites: Impact of hybrid natural fibers and oil cake filler addition

K. R. Sumesh et al.

Summary: A novel epoxy-based composite was fabricated by reinforcing pineapple/flax fibers and peanut oil cake filler. The mechanical properties of the composite were significantly improved after the addition of the filler. Taguchi optimization identified the optimal combination of parameters for lower specific wear rate (SWR) and coefficient of friction (COF).
