Anaerobic Threshold in a Water-Based Exercise: Agreement Between Heart Rate Deflection Point and Lactate Threshold Methods

Cristine L. Alberton et al.

Summary: In a study comparing HR and RPE corresponding to anaerobic threshold methods during water-based exercise in young men, it was found that there was agreement between HRDP and LT methods for HR, but RPE values were significantly higher in the HRDP method, indicating a lack of acceptable agreement between the two methods. Strong relationships were verified between methods of AT determination for HR and RPE. The HR determined by HRDP may be a valid parameter used for intensity prescription in water-based exercise programs for young men.

Mitochondrial lactate metabolism: history and implications for exercise and disease

Brian Glancy et al.

Summary: Mitochondria play a crucial role in cellular energy production through oxidative phosphorylation. Research has shown that lactate is important in energy metabolism but is not directly oxidized within the mitochondria. Proper oxygen levels are essential for cellular function.
