Two new near-infrared emissive iridium complexes were designed and synthesized in this study, both showing mechanochromic luminescent behavior attributed to physical phase transformations from amorphization to crystallization.
Iridium(III) complexes with near-infrared (NIR) emission are still less well developed. In this work, two new NIR emissive monoand dinuclear iridium complexes were designed and synthesized via introducing the tetraphenlyethene Schiff base ligands. Interestingly, both complexes display mechanochromic luminescent (MCL) behavior, and the MCL mechanism can be attributed to the atypical physical phase transformations from amorphization to crystallization.
