The study focused on the first- and second-order magnetic anisotropy coefficients, K-1 and K-2, of Fe atomic monolayers on a MgO(001) substrate under an electric field. Results show that the electric field derivatives of K-1 and K-2 have opposite signs to each other in all systems studied.
We studied the first- and the second-order magnetic anisotropy coefficients, K-1 and K-2, of Fe atomic monolayers on a MgO(001) substrate under an electric field by using first-principles calculations. Special attention has been paid to the effect of the Fe layer thickness and the Cr-capping layer on the electric field dependence of K-1 and K-2. The results show that for all the systems we studied the electric field derivatives of K-1 and K-2 have the opposite sign to each other as observed in recent experiments.
