Independent impact of periodontitis and cardiovascular disease on elevated soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) levels

Gaetano Isola et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with periodontitis and periodontitis + CHD had higher suPAR levels in both plasma and saliva compared to healthy controls and CHD patients. Univariate regression analysis showed that hs-CRP and periodontitis had a significant negative direct effect on suPAR levels in both plasma and saliva. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that periodontitis was the only significant predictor of plasma suPAR levels, while hs-CRP was the only significant predictor of salivary suPAR levels.

Identification of the different salivary Interleukin-6 profiles in patients with periodontitis: A cross-sectional study

Gaetano Isola et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with periodontitis had significantly higher levels of salivary IL-6 compared to healthy subjects; salivary IL-6 levels were negatively correlated with C-reactive protein, number of teeth, CAL, PPD, and FMBS; in patients with periodontitis, salivary IL-6 levels were inversely associated with the number of teeth, and directly associated with the extent of periodontitis (CAL, PPD, FMBS).
