New chemical compounds have been synthesized and characterized, with a novel semicarbazone obtained in three stages of intermediate process and final crystallization. The semicarbazone was used as a ligand for Tb3+ ion complexation, leading to the characterization of the obtained terbium compound through various techniques. The possibility of ligand-to-metal energy transfer was also discussed.
New chemical compounds have been synthesized and their physicochemical properties have been characterized. N'-[2,4-dihydroxyphenyl) methylidene]-4-(4-fluorophenyl) piperazine-1-carbothiohydrazide, a novel semicarbazone has been obtained in the three stages of intermediate process and by the final crystallization from the methanol solution. The final and intermediate products have been studied using H-1, C-13 NMR and MS spectroscopic techniques. The semicarbazone was applied as a ligand for the Tb3+ ion complexation and the obtained terbium compound has been characterized by elemental chemical analysis as well as by the IR, Raman, and electron absorption and emission techniques. Its molecular structure has been proposed. The probability of the ligand-to-metal energy transfer has been discussed.
