The high expression of PCAT7 in breast cancer promotes its occurrence and malignant progression by regulating the expression of downstream genes, providing a new molecular marker for cancer diagnosis.
Lay abstract Breast cancer is a common malignancy in women. Due to limited understanding of the pathogenesis and a lack of diagnostic markers, the diagnosis and treatment effect of breast cancer remain poor. In this study, cell and molecular experiments, as well as other experimental methods, were applied to prove that PCAT7 with a high expression level in breast cancer has an obvious promoting effect on the incidence of breast cancer. Moreover, PCAT7 can promote the malignant progression of breast cancer by regulating the expression of a series of downstream genes. This study identifies a new molecular marker for cancer diagnosis and deepens people's understanding of the pathogenesis of breast cancer. Aim: This study aimed to explore the mechanism of lncRNA PCAT7 underlying the progression of breast cancer, which will provide a basis for accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment. Methods: Data from The Cancer Genome Atlas data associated with breast cancer were used to identify the target lncRNA. In vitro experiments were conducted to detect gene expression and the effect of the lncRNA on cancer cell activities. Results: PCAT7 was found to be highly expressed in breast cancer tissue and cells, which activated the ErbB/PI3K/Akt pathway to potentiate cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion and suppress apoptosis. Conclusion: PCAT7 is likely to promote tumor cell activities by activating ErbB/PI3K/Akt pathway, in turn potentiating tumor malignant progression.
