Mitochondrial localization and moderated activity are key to murine erythroid enucleation

Raymond Liang et al.

Summary: Mitochondria play a crucial role in nuclear clearance during the erythroblast maturation process. Cells with lower mitochondrial membrane potential exhibit higher enucleation rates and are at a later stage of maturation. Late-stage erythroblasts sustain mitochondrial metabolism primarily through pyruvate and independent of glycolysis.
