The silicon-containing arylacetylene resins synthesized with 2,5-diphenyl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazole moieties exhibit good solubility, thermal and mechanical properties, as well as high flexural strength and modulus. The resins can be cured at temperatures below 200 degrees C and show high temperature resistance.
The silicon-containing arylacetylene resins with 2,5-diphenyl-[1,3,4]-oxadiazole moieties (PODSA-MM, PODSA-MP and PODSA-PP) in the main chains were synthesized by Grignard reactions and characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR) spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results show that the resins have good solubility, processability, low water absorption, good thermal and mechanical properties. The resins could be cured at a temperature lower than 200 degrees C. The flexural strength and modulus of the cured PODSA-MP resin at room temperature are 69.6 MPa and 2.5 GPa, respectively. T300 carbon fibre cloth reinforced PODSA-MP resin composite shows high flexural strength (673 MPa) and modulus (64.4 GPa) as well. The temperatures at 5% weight loss (T-d5) of the cured resins are higher than 450 degrees C in nitrogen and air.
