Assessing the potency of environmental regulation in maintaining environmental sustainability inMENAcountries: An advanced panel data estimation

Joseph A. Omojolaibi et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of environmental regulations, trade, economic growth, and energy consumption on the ecological footprint in the Middle East and North Africa countries. The empirical results show that environmental regulations have limited influence on environmental sustainability in these countries. Meanwhile, trade, economic growth, and energy consumption all contribute to an increase in ecological footprint.

Revisiting the CO2emission-induced EKC hypothesis in South Asia: the role of Export Quality Improvement

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of export quality on the relationship between economic growth and carbon dioxide emissions in South Asian economies, and validates the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis in the context of Bangladesh and India. The findings show a U-shaped association between economic growth and carbon dioxide emissions in Pakistan, while economic growth is found to decrease carbon dioxide emissions in Sri Lanka and Nepal. Additionally, improving export quality is found to lead to lower levels of carbon dioxide emissions.

Natural resource, globalization, urbanization, human capital, and environmental degradation in Latin American and Caribbean countries

Solomon P. Nathaniel et al.

Summary: The study examines the relationship between natural resource exploration, globalization, urbanization, and environmental degradation in Latin American and Caribbean countries. It finds that human capital plays a moderating role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and there is a causal link between economic growth and emissions. The study suggests promoting sustainable growth-driven industries and enhancing human capital to mitigate CO(2) emissions in the region.

Biocapacity, human capital, and ecological footprint in G7 countries: the moderating role of urbanization and necessary lessons for emerging economies

Solomon P. Nathaniel

Summary: The core environmental challenge faced by G7 countries is the decreasing biocapacity, increasing ecological footprint, and urbanization growth. The study found that biocapacity, economic growth, and urbanization increase ecological footprint, while human capital decreases it. Urbanization has less harmful impact in Canada, Japan, and the UK, but remains devastating in the USA, Germany, Italy, and France.

Consumption of liquefied petroleum gas and the EKC hypothesis in South Asia: evidence from cross-sectionally dependent heterogeneous panel data with structural breaks

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: This paper explores the authenticity of the EKC hypothesis for six South Asian economies in the context of both aggregate and disaggregated greenhouse emissions. The study validates the existence of the EKC hypothesis and reveals heterogeneity in EKC findings across the countries. Furthermore, it is found that LPG consumption reduces greenhouse emissions in all economies, indicating its potential as a transitional fuel for South Asian countries before transitioning to renewable energy sources.

The Environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis for deforestation in Bangladesh: An ARDL analysis with multiple structural breaks

Muntasir Murshed et al.

Summary: This study tests the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis in Bangladesh, confirming a nonlinear relationship between economic growth and deforestation practices. The results show that energy consumption promotes deforestation in the long run, while population growth rate and agricultural land expansion lead to greater deforestation in both the short and long terms. Policy implications include effective measures to reduce deforestation practices in Bangladesh.

Assessing the environmental sustainability corridor: Linking natural resources, renewable energy, human capital, and ecological footprint in BRICS.

Solomon Prince Nathaniel et al.

Summary: The study reveals that economic growth and natural resource increase contribute to ecological footprint (EF), while renewable energy decreases it. Human capital is not yet at a desirable level to mitigate environmental deterioration. Country-specific results show the deteriorating impact of economic growth and the abating role of renewable energy on the environment. Further findings suggest a feedback causality between human capital, urbanization, and EF.

Global evidence of time-frequency dependency of temperature and environmental quality from a wavelet coherence approach

Andrew Adewale Alola et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between global average temperature and global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels utilizing wavelet coherence and Toda and Yamamoto causality approaches. The findings show vulnerabilities in temperature and emissions at different time periods and frequencies, strong explanatory power of CO2 emissions for temperature, positive correlation between temperature and emissions in the medium term, and that CO2 emissions cause global temperature in line with the wavelet coherence approach.

Summary: The study explores the impact of energy use, urbanization, trade, and economic growth on the environment, finding that urbanization, economic growth, and energy consumption lead to environmental degradation, while trade also deteriorates it in the long run. Trade reduces environmental quality in the short term, while economic growth, energy use, and urbanization consistently show negative outcomes in the long run.
