Physical Exercise Training Effect and Mediation Through Cardiorespiratory Fitness on Dual-Task Performances Differ in Younger-Old and Older-Old Adults

Louis Bherer et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of physical exercise on single- and dual-task performance in older adults, finding that in adults aged 70+, exercise training predicted improved processing speed, with this improvement being fully mediated by changes in cardiorespiratory fitness. In adults aged <70, exercise predicted improvement in task-set cost, but this improvement was not entirely mediated by changes in cardiorespiratory fitness.
