Assessment of depth-dependent microbial carbon-use efficiency in long-term fertilized paddy soil using an18O-H2Oapproach

Mostafa Zhran et al.

Summary: Long-term fertilization increased microbial C uptake, CUE, and growth rates, with the highest values observed in the NPK + OM treatment. CUE varied with depth, decreasing in control treatment but increasing in fertilized soils, indicating a shift in C usage for biomass growth. MB turnover was faster in NPK and NPK + OM compared to control, intensifying with depth.
