Crystalline porous materials including MOFs and COFs have generated great interest in energy storage fields especially batteries, because the ordered porous frameworks can offer a fast-ionic transportation and storage path without large volume variation. In recent years, pristine MOFs and COFs for battery application attract more interests. In this review paper, we highlight the recent progress of pristine MOFs and COFs in three main parts of battery, including electrode materials or host materials, solid-state electrolyte and separator. We summarize current challenges and advantages of the emerging field, make a deep understanding the mechanism behind and propose the design criteria for actual battery applications.
