In this work, a non-fullerene acceptor DTY6 is designed to apply in organic solar cell (OSC) module devices. When blended with donor PM6, the DTY6-based OSCs exhibit excellent performance with power conversion efficiency (PCE) over 16% when using non-halogen solvent o-xylene. In contrast, the Y6-based OSCs show poor device performance (PCE < 11%) when processed with o-xylene. The detailed studies reveal that extremely large domains appear in the Y6-based blend film because of the excessive aggregation of Y6, which results in the lowly efficient hole transfer from Y6 to PM6 and enhanced non- radiative recombination. On the contrary, the DTY6-based film shows a more reasonable domain size, thus ensuring the efficient hole transfer from DTY6 to PM6 and low non-radiative recombination. Based on these results, non-halogen solvent o-xylene-processed large- area (active layer area 18 cm(2)) opaque and semi-transparent module devices based on PM6: DTY6 are fabricated by blade coating, and outstanding PCEs of 14.4% and 11.6% are obtained.
