Assessing the Suitability of Next-Generation Viral Outgrowth Assays to Measure Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 Latent Reservoir Size

Summary: The study compared the suitability of 6 next-generation viral outgrowth assays with classic QVOA, showing that the next-generation assays had similar estimates of variation and reported higher infectious units values compared to QVOA. Within-batch testing of the next-generation assays had 2.5-fold extra-Poisson variation, which increased to 3.4-fold between laboratories.
