Decreased running economy is not associated with decreased force production capacity following downhill running in untrained, young men

Leonardo C. R. Lima et al.

Summary: The study found that downhill running led to a decrease in running economy which lasted for several days, but this decrease was not strongly correlated with a decline in muscle function. This suggests that strength loss is not a key factor affecting running economy.

Physiological factors determining downhill vs uphill running endurance performance

Marcel Lemire et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cardiorespiratory responses of highly trained runners in outdoor downhill and uphill time-trials and explored the determinants of downhill and uphill performance. Results showed that both downhill and uphill performances are well explained by three independent predictors, with one specific predictor for each type of performance.
