This study investigates the photon, neutron, and proton shielding properties of FexSe0.5Te0.5 alloys with varying iron concentrations. The results show that Fe0.95Se0.5Te0.5 sample has superior shielding features, making it a promising candidate for ionizing radiation shielding applications.
This study aims to explore the photon, neutron, and proton shielding features of FexSe0.5Te0.5 alloys with different iron concentrations; 0.95 <= x <= 1.05. The X-ray diffraction revealed that the prepared samples have the PbO-tetragonal structure. SRIM code and Phy-X program were used to determine various ionizing radiation shielding features. The alloys density, mass attenuation coefficient, and the removal cross-section for fast neutrons showed a progressive reduction with increasing iron contents. While the mass stopping power and projected range values increased with the addition of iron contents. The Fe0.95Se0.5Te0.5 sample has the maximum density and appeared to have superior photons, neutrons, and protons shielding features. The obtained results nominate the present alloys to be used in ionizing radiation shielding applications. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
