Unflushable or missing toilet paper, the dilemma for developing communities during the COVID-19 episode

Shiyi Sun et al.

Summary: In contrast to developed countries, most public toilets in China do not provide toilet paper and users are required to bring their own. Used toilet paper and tissues are disposed in open waste bins within the user's cubicle, which has led to a dilemma in toilet paper disposal as some municipalities have removed waste bins to prevent virus transmission. The flushability of standard toilet paper has not been clearly determined, posing a challenge in sewer operations.

Electrostatic fine particles emitted from laser printers as potential vectors for airborne transmission of COVID-19

Shanshan He et al.

Summary: The global COVID-19 pandemic has infected over 14 million people, with airborne transmission being a major contributor to the spread. Many studies have found positive correlations between atmospheric pollutants and virus infection, but the impact of indoor air pollutants has been largely overlooked. Laser printers, a primary source of indoor particulate matter emissions, may pose a potential risk for virus transmission.

Lower COVID-19 mortality in Italian forested areas suggests immunoprotection by Mediterranean plants

Valentina Roviello et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had varying impacts on different regions of Italy, with the southern regions experiencing lower mortality rates possibly due to higher forest coverage emitting immune-modulating compounds. In silico studies also revealed potential antiviral activity in compounds from bay laurel. These findings emphasize the importance of nature conservation and exploration of natural antivirals.

Stability of SARS-CoV-2 and other coronaviruses in the environment and on common touch surfaces and the influence of climatic conditions: A review

Hamada A. Aboubakr et al.

Summary: Global efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 are unprecedented, yet confirmed cases are increasing rapidly. Effective preventive measures are urgently needed, focusing on understanding the virus's transmission routes, environmental stability, and persistence on various surfaces. SARS-CoV-2 may be transmitted through the air and poses potential risks of faecal-oral, foodborne, and waterborne transmission.
