The collapse accident of Heyuan Dongjiang Bridge was studied through site investigation, ana-lysis of collapse videos, finite element simulation inversion analysis and other methods. Firstly, photos and videos regarding the collapse site were collected to analyze the possible causes of the collapse. Secondly, the three-dimensional FEM of Heyuan Dongjiang Bridge were established based on the information and videos of the collapse. Thirdly, the collapse process of Heyuan Dongjiang Bridge was inversely analyzed based on the finite element model (FEM); finally, the site data, collapse videos and finite element simulation results were combined to comprehensively analyze the causes for the collapse of Heyuan Dongjiang Bridge. The results showed: the performance degradation of main arch ring's material and the foundation displacement were the major causes of the collapse of Heyuan Dongjiang Bridge. Accordingly, it was recommended to test and evaluate the performance of the main arch ring materials of deck type arch bridges on service for a long time; and check the displacement of the piers (abutment) in segments of rushing water.
