Summary: This review summarizes suitable, sustainable, and inexpensive alternative electrocatalysts to enhance the economic viability of glycerol electrooxidation process; the importance of prospective heteroatom-doped materials and their rational design is discussed; these findings provide insights for further efficient and cost-effective conversion of glycerol into value-added chemicals in future research and engineering applications.
