The formation mechanism of orthorhombic SnO2 is not clear, so its synthesis and application lack relevant research. In this communication, SnO2 nanoparticles with mixed phases (i.e., orthorhombic and tetragonal phases) and a single phase (i.e., tetragonal phase) were prepared by calcining a novel Metal-Organic Frameworks material. The samples were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The sensor based on mixed-phase SnO2 exhibited good performance toward 100 ppm ethanol than that of based on tetragonal phase SnO2, including a higher response (1134) and a lower optimum operating temperature (170 degrees C).
