Microencapsulated phase change material with double shell (MicroPCMDS) was prepared using paraffin as heat storage core material to solve leakage prevention and improve heat conduction. TEOS hydrolyzed silica served as the first layer of inorganic shell, while the modified spherical silica was used to form the second layer shell. The microstructure, chemical structure, thermal stability and thermal properties of MicroPCMDS were characterized by the FE-SEM, FTIR, DSC, TGA and the thermal conductivity meter. The results indicated that MicroPCMDS presented a good double shell spherical structure. The double shell had an important effect on improving its thermal stability and thermal conductivity of MicroPCMDS. Notably, the thermal conductivity of MicroPCMDS increased by 133.33 % and can maintain good sealing at 65 degrees C. Since the outstanding properties, there will be a promising prospect for MicroPCMDS in the field of thermal energy storage.
