Coordination of 2,2'-bisdipyrrin based ligands to Zn(II) cations leads to the formation of binuclear helicates with pre-organized pyrrolic strands as well as peripheral aromaticmoieties for Ag-pi interactions, thus affording crystalline heterometallic networks upon further interactions with Ag(I) salts without the assistance of additional heteroatom-based coordinating units.
