A novel diisopropylammonium nicotinate crystal having third order nonlinear properties was synthesized and grown. In order to obtain insights into the crystalline structure and lattice parameters of the titled new compound, single crystal X-ray diffraction technique was employed. All the molecular interactions present inside the titled crystal were studied by 3D Hirshfeld surface analysis. The suitability of the material in optical applications was supported by UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The titled compound is transparent in the entire visible range having a band gap of 4.08 eV and optical cut-off at 294 nm. Thermal stability of the grown crystal was assessed by TGA/DTA analysis. The third order nonlinear response was estimated by Z-scan technique. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
