Elucidation of molecular interactions between human γD-crystallin and quercetin, an inhibitor against tryptophan oxidation

Shiwani Rana et al.

Summary: Different post-translational modifications of eye lens crystallin proteins play a role in the development of cataract, with oxidative modification of tryptophan residues by quercetin inhibiting the formation of NFK associated with cataractogenesis. The interactions between quercetin and HGD were studied using fluorescence techniques, indicating energy transfer and involvement of hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions. Experimental observations were supported by docking results, confirming the inhibition of oxidation by quercetin.
