Bringing the outside in: The feasibility of virtual reality with people with dementia in an inpatient psychiatric care setting

Vienna Rose et al.

Summary: The study found that virtual reality was well-received and positively perceived by people with dementia within an inpatient psychiatric care setting. Participants viewed virtual reality as a positive 'change in environment' and expressed willingness to use it again. They reported increased pleasure and alertness during and after virtual reality experiences. Three core themes emerged from the study: 'Virtual Reality Experiences', 'Impact of Virtual Reality' and 'Experiences within the Virtual Environment'.
