Immune responses must be tightly controlled to avoid host damage. In Drosophila, two NF-kappa B signaling pathways, Toll and Imd, mediate host immune responses. In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Morris et al. (2016) introduce Pickle, a nuclear I kappa B that inhibits Drosophila immune signaling by modulating the NF-kappa B Relish.
