Predictors of mortality in 217 COVID-19 patients in Northwest Ohio, United States: A retrospective study

Ganesh Prasadd Merugu et al.

Summary: This study of 217 COVID-19 patients in a US hospital identified specific lab markers, complications, and treatments associated with increased mortality. Factors including low hemoglobin, elevated INR, low platelets, elevated procalcitonin, and treatments such as antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, blood transfusion, steroids, and intubation were all linked to higher mortality rates related to COVID-19 infection. Healthcare professionals should take note of these predictors.
