Direct synthesis of aromatics from syngas was investigated over a Mo-modified Fe/HZSM-5 bifunctional catalyst. The strong interaction of Fe-Mo promoted the dispersion of Fe species, strengthening the synergistic effect between iron carbides and acid sites in this reaction and promoting the formation of aromatics. Compared with the Fe/HZSM-5 catalysts modified by Zn, Mn, Pd, Na and K, MoFe/HZSM-5 displayed the optimal catalytic performance with a high aromatics productivity of 62.5 mmol(aromatics)/(g(Fe) h. Especially, the increase of Mo loading decreased the external Bronsted acidity of catalyst, promoting the formation of benzene, toluene and xylene in aromatics, whereas suppressing the fraction of heavy aromatics.
