We have developed an efficient acylmethylation of C6 aryl- purines via C-H bond activation using the readily available sulfoxonium ylides as carbene precursors. The purine motif is the direction group. Our Rh-catalyzed acylmethylation offers excellent chemical yields and regioselectivity with good functional group tolerance.
