New 1,2,4-triazine derivatives, as biologically active heterocyclics, were synthesized in the presence of acetic acid as a result of the reaction of pyridine-2-(1H)-one derivatives with 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds at 50 degrees C, and their biological properties were also investigated.
Reaction of pyridine-2-(1H)-one derivatives (diamines) and 1,2-dicarbonyl compounds in the adjacency of acetic acid, a solvent, inexpensive and green catalyst, at 50 degrees C produced new 1,2,4-triazine derivatives in high yields, and reactions were completed in less than 60 min. This process generates pharmacologically and biologically principal heterocycles that affords substantial advantages such as: short reaction time, excellent yields; absence of any dreary purification or work-up and avoidance of dangerous reagents/solvents. The antimicrobial effects including antibacterial and antifungal activities, based on inhibition zone diameter (IZD), minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) values we reported.
