Safe handling of veins in the pineal region-a mixed method study

Markus E. Krogager et al.

Summary: Experienced neurosurgeons generally agree that sacrificing the vein of Galen, both internal cerebral veins, and basal veins carries a high risk of death during pineal surgery. Sacrificing both superior vermian veins and one internal occipital vein is perceived to carry a lower risk. Some experienced surgeons reported substantial risk and consequences associated with sacrificing cerebellar bridging veins.
