Using bentonite as support, bentonite-based nickel catalyst for hydrogenation of Jatropha oil biodiesel was prepared using [Ni(NH3)(6)](NO3)(2) as precursor. By this method, the aggregation of Ni crystallite on catalyst could be significantly suppressed, and the combination between bentonite and nickel has been enhanced. The anchoring of [Ni(NH3)(6)](NO3)(2) on bentonite was a key factor to facilitate the activity of catalyst for the hydrogenation of Jatropha oil biodiesel. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
