A facile hydrothermal method was adopted to synthesize 3D Mg-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) microspheres. After being calcined at 500 degrees C, the obtained Mg-Al layered double oxide (LDO) preserving the morphology of LDH precursor was applied to remove methyl orange (MO) from aqueous solutions. The results show that these LDO microspheres possessing an ultra high adsorption capacity of 3056.8 mg g(-1), and the kinetics and isotherms can be fitted well with the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models. The adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic, and the mechanism is mainly attributed to the structure reconstruction of LDH with MO incorporated into the interlayer. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V.
